Le présent continu (ou présent progressif) décrit une action en train de se dérouler. En français, on dirait « être en train de ».

- -ie devient -ying : die / dying, lie / lying ;
- consonne doublée après voyelle courte accentuée : stop / stopping, run / running, sit / sitting, begin / beginning ;
- sinon on ajoute simplement -ing : play / playing, read / reading.
3. Quand l'utiliser ?

- Situation temporaire : I'm living with my aunt this month.
- Projet futur déjà organisé : We're travelling to Lagos tomorrow.
Mots indicateurs : now, right now, at the moment, today, this week, Look!, Listen!
Verbes d'état : know, like, love, want, need, believe, understand, belong ne se mettent presque jamais au continu. On dit I know, jamais I am knowing.
